Costume Materials

Since my last post of planning out my costume I set out to gather the materials. The materials I gathered up include: Spandex, Faux Leather, and Polly-Fil.

Chest Piece

Gambit’s Chest Piece has two main elements to it. The color and the muscle tone.

 Spandex
The Spandex I bought came from Spandex World in New York, New York. I went with three yards of Milliskin Matte (Magenta) #4142

After browsing their site and the actual store, this was the closest they had to Gambit’s chest plate color.

Polly-Foam

For the muscle tone in the chest armor, I bought three packs of Polly-Fil NU-Foam from Micheles
15inx17in x2in
Unfortunately they don’t have their product listed on their website but they do sell it in their stores, and most arts and crafts stores.

Leg Armor
Gambit’s Leg Armor is padding going down the side of his leg

Polly-FIl
For the armor on his legs I bought
Polly-Foam that is 15inx17inx1in
which will be cut into rectangles and wrapped in the magenta spandex  These also can be bought at Micheles or an arts and crafts shop.

Faux Leather
I lucked out on buying this, since I also got this from Spandex World. The main purpose for picking this up was to add to the armor specifically Gambit’s neck piece and filling out his head armor

Start of Building a Costume

This year I am going to New York Comic Con 2012 (NYCC) and go dressed up, as one of my favorite mutants Gambit

The first part of the process is the research from other people who made Gambit costumes, which involved a quick image search which brought me to ne0vem0m’s Blog which is were I got the info for the best chest piece, this model is a 2007 Proto Chest Protector.

I found this piece on eBay and had it in a few days. What needs to be done is to wrap it in some magenta spandex, and some foam for armor padding.

The second iconic piece for Gambit’s costume is the trench coat, this was actually the hardest item to find, this was a full day of browsing Google shopping, eBay, and anything else I could think of down to making my own.

I finally found this trench coat on eBay, its canvas but just the right color. The only real modification that needs to be made is plastic belt tie to a metal buckle.

Gambit’s head armor is also very iconic, in my research I found people who made their own, though I thought there might be something better lucky for me I found it.

Face Mask Front

Mask Back

The main modifications that needs that the main face cover from nose to under the chin needs to be removed. I also need to cut out ear holes, and had some leather to it to fill it out some more.

Since I can’t walk around barefoot I had to get some boots. This was hard too, cause finding the right height in boots that flows just below the knees was a pain.Luckily thanks to Medieval Collectibles I ordered Mens Knightly Boots

The modifications that need to be made to this are, to make them looked armored not just painted silver. I have an idea which includes layering leather onto the boot. I think this is going to be the hardest part of the whole outfit.
